#1: Lake Havasu, Arizona 70.3

March 20, 2017

Ok so I completed my first race of the season. It was the Toughman Half Ironman in Lake Havasu, Arizona. I was looking forward to racing after months of training.

I was happy to have a place to stay while in Lake Havasu! My friend Dave Kreis connected me with his aunt who graciously opened her doors to me! I was happy to have support there! They even made signs during the race! Also, my buddy Cornelius Noble came support with his family. He is another Recon Marine who I served with. I really loved seeing a familiar face at the race and enjoyed having a meal with him and the family.

The race was HOT! It was about 95 degrees that day! The water was 60 degrees, which felt good on a hot day. The bike and run were hilly, but I tried to keep steady with my pace. I ended up taking 1st in my age group and 9th overall! That was a great feeling!

I was a little frustrtated that the airlines/TSA messed up my bike, so when I got to Arizona I had to go to Lowe's to get tools to fix my bike. They messed it up again on the flight home by pulling out cords which affected the shifting. I guess I will have to learn to pack it better or write a note so they don't touch it so much on the next flight!

Overall it was a great start and I felt proud. I am all in now...there is no turning back on this goal. I am all in and fully committed to completing this endevour and breaking the Guiness World Record. More importantly, I am currently at $9,500 of my fundraising goal! I am hoping to raise $25,000 so I have a long way to go. However, I believe that the more races I do and the more I travel around spreading the word, hopefully the more donations I will receive for the Semper Fi Fund.

Thanks to all for the support support...next race is Texas in two weeks!
